The Kristeva Circle held its first meeting and inaugural conference at Siena College in 2012. Since then, meetings and conferences have been held at Vanderbilt University (2014), University of Memphis (2015), Södertörn University in Sweden (2016), University of Pittsburgh (2017), California State University at Northridge (2018), Emory University (2019), The Southeast European Centre for Semiotic Studies at the New Bulgarian University in Bulgaria (2022 – the conference had to be postponed due to pandemic realities), and Concordia University in Canada (2024). The upcoming conference will be held at State University of New York at Buffalo in October 2026.

Among our keynote speakers are Julia Kristeva herself as well as several established Kristeva scholars, such as Noëlle McAfee, Maria Margaroni, Tina Chanter, Kelly Oliver, Ewa Ziarek, Miglena Nikolchina, Cecilia Sjöholm, and Fanny Söderbäck. Our conferences have also featured a number of keynote speakers who have been invited to critically engage Kristeva’s work from diverse perspectives, such as Hortense Spillers, Jack Halberstam, Mariana Ortega, Anne McClintock, Emanuela Bianchi, Alia Al-Saji, Perry Zurn, David Marriott, and Melinda C. Hall. We have organized books sessions, roundtable discussions, and numerous panels and plenaries where speakers have addressed Kristeva’s work from a range of perspectives and fields. We also held a satellite session featuring two scholarly panels at the Diverse Lineages of Existentialism Conference that was held in Washington DC in 2019, as well as special panels at the Society for Phenomenology and Existential Philosophy (SPEP) in 2023 and 2025.
